Variable definition of component model
Can I use one string variable JFET_TYPE in each of the components to define the the Model name, and a Variable definition JFET_TYPE="JFETM1", to define the actual model referenced ? I have tried this but can't get it to work, is this possible or is there a better a way ?
You can do this using the Data Access Component. I recommend looking at the ADS example Tutorial/DataAccess_wrk. Look at the amp1 schematic.

However the DataAccess_wrk/amp1 example seems unnecessarily complicated for me. The example shows the parameters for one device being selected from many different files.
I have many identical devices but only 4 or 5 different models to select. Although the example could be adapted to my situation, it involves putting all the model parameters in files, which I dont want to do. I would prefer to keep the model definitions in the schematic. Is there a better way ?
I have tried using the StringList component, to provide the model name to my JFET component, but could not get this to work. E.G.
Model=StringList1.String
where StringList1 defines String[1]="JFETM1"

If the components are identical, why not create an additional hierachy level (subcircuit) with the device?
Then the subcircuit instances for all device instances will remain unchanged and you only need to edit parameters in one place (subcircuit definition).
