How to increase the bandwidth of the microstrip patch antenna array in ADS

录入:edatop.com    点击:
Hi,
I'm designing a 4X1 microstrip patch array antenna (microstrip line feed) at 2.4-2.5 GHZ band using ADS
the parameters i m getting are
returnloss = -25.8 db
directivity is 12.65 dbi
gain= 12.7dbi
the problem is that im getting very narrow bandwidth of only ~30MHZ, how can i increase it so it'll cover most of the 2.4-2.5 GHZ band?

THNAKS!

I would start by looking at both the feed network and the elements to see if I had sufficient bandwidth prior to putting them together. Once you have a feeling for what is causing the bandwidth limits a path to a solution will be more clear.

More specific recommendations would be pointless as I would be only guessing about your situation. I would not anticipate that 100 MHz of bandwidth would be particularly hard to come up with.

Just an observation: gain is less than directivity. Maybe that is rounding but I would look carefully. I would anticipate some difference between the two numbers. It could happen but I am suspicious that your gain is too optimistic. Look at your model carefully and verify the result with testing before going too far with what you show here. Patches typically produce about 6 dBi. Array four antennas and you can pick up around 6 dB. The 12.7 dBi you cite gives me pause. It is possible, just look carefully.

Hi thanks for the help

here's my feed network, its consists of 100, 50 and 70 (quarter length match) ohm Tlines, from a quick observation can you see any flaws in the design?
or do you have any suggestions of how to improve it?

Look at the bends and splits carefully. I would expect that you could improve there. Howe's book has detailed information.
