X band power amplifier using ads
I AM DESIGNING A X BAND SSPA WITH OUTPUT POWER OF 10W....INPUT POWER IS 20db.... CLASS AB USING A HEMT NOT USING A MMIC........I NEED TO KNW RIGHT NW VICH HEMT FRM POPULAR MANUFACTURERS CAN SUITE MY SPECIFICATIONS......
Hi there welcome to the forum.
a few friendly suggestions....
Please turn off the caps lock ... on the net caps lock infers shouting etc :)
please dont demand answers right now ... impatience like that doesnt encourage people to answer you
please dont use shortened words like you are texting some one on your phone :)
you said input power 20dB .... 20dB what ? dBm ? dBW ? dBuV ?
I will assume 20dBm (100mW) .. have you done a google search for such devices fitting your requirements ?
for the output power level you are looking at MMIC amplifiers are the best way to go, much easier to build and more stable in use.
Eudyna is a popular company for producing FETS and MMIC's for the microwave bands ... check out their www site and see what they have :)
cheers
Dave
Thanx dave for your invaluable suggestions
i have found FLM0910-25F fitting.........actually i am supposed to do my project based on fet only as we know by using mmic one doesnt need to do much regarding the design in ads....
Also i need to know if there are any predefined tools in ads which help in bringing linearity & efficiency in the SSPA......
& to bring 10W output from 20 dbm input is there any other way than going for two stage SSPA....
What is SSPA?
Solid State Power Amplifier a relatively common term around the bands these days
just to differentiate it from a tube amp or hybrid transistor / tube amp
to the OP'er as far ADS goes sorry cant help with that part, have never used that software
The FLM0910-25F ... wow 20W capability a nice device, being internally matched for 50 Ohms makes that one much easier to use as well makes my 3W amps look pretty weak! haha
Dave
haha yup so much r&d going on in this sector its amazing........
Hey dave at what frequency did you make your 3W amp & using which software......can you show me your outputs?
i need to know what internally matched means? dont i need to design the matching networks for 50ohm terminations?
also what does term "octave band" means? Its now & then used in SSPA literature....
No, you don't need do anything for internally matched.
Octave band means the stop freq point is double than the start freq point, say 5G~10G.
As Tony replied, internally matched means no elaborate stripline impedance matching is required.
Actually I dont use any software ... one day must have a play with one or two packages. Primarily, I experiment by physically building and refining as I go. As far as my microwave band work goes, it isnt for commercial use and hence I dont have to be as exact with my activities. But I do need to make sure, of course, that various devices are being operated within their parameters. :) my 10Ghz activities are on the 10 - 10.5GHz amateur band and specifically 10.368GHz for narrow band FM and SSB operations and 10.4GHz for ATV amateur TV operations.
for my amps I'm using the eudyna FMM5061VF X-Band 2W MMIC Pwr Amp (9.5 - 13.3GHz) produces an easy 2 - 3 W output with 10-20mW of drive.
cheers
Dave
