Ludwig-3 Polarization

Arthur C. Ludwig wrote a classic paper [Ref. 1]on the definition of cross polarization. In particular, his third definition is often used since it describes the field components that are typically measured on a far-field antenna test range. Using his definition, the radiated field may be written as E = En, Ey where

and phi is the usual azimuthal angle in the reference spherical coordinate system.
