This page contains a list of the most important messages in the context of the multilayer solver together with a detailed explanation of the meaning and proposal for handling and resolution.

The layer stack up is not supported in the x, y direction. We will try to create a layer stack up in the z direction.

To detect the direction of the layer stack up, the face with the largest area is determined and the normal of this face defines the layer direction.

This detection may find a layer stack up in the x, y direction but the layer direction is only supported in the z direction.

We try to create a layer stack up in z direction, but it is recommended to verify the setup of your model.

 

The setup of port ... is not supported ...

For the multilayer solver discrete ports as well as waveguide and multipin ports are supported. Before the start of the solver  the port setup is checked. If a port with an unsupported setup is detected the program will stop with an error message. Please find valid multilayer port setups below.

 

Single or multiple microstrip lines and striplines can be defined by a waveguide (only single line) or a multipin port. The ground definition must be done either by  an electric boundary condition at ZMin or ZMax or by an infinite shielding plane in the layer stackup.

 

          

 

Multiple microstrip lines with infinite ground can be defined by a multipin port. The ground definition must be done by either an electric boundary condition at ZMin or ZMax or an infinite shielding plane in the layer stackup. The deembedding option in the solver specials dialog must be enabled. Both pins will be excited simultaneously.

 

 

Single microstrip lines can also be defined with a  finite ground by using a multipin port. The microstrip line has to be defined as a pin. The deembedding option must be enabled. An additional infinite ground is not supported.

 

 

Ungrounded coplanar lines can be defined with a multipin port. The deembedding option must be enabled. No additional ground is supported.
