Polarization Filter - CST2013 MWS Examples
General Description
This example shows the calculation of a polarization filter illuminated by a circular polarized plane wave. The filter consists of a thin metal plane with air filled slots cut into the plane. The electromagnetic field is driven by a circular polarized plane wave excitation source.
Structure Generation
The filter is created using simple bricks. The main brick consists of PEC material and the slots are created by inserting vacuum bricks in the PEC brick.
Solver Setup
A left-handed circular polarized plane wave is defined on one side of the calculation domain to illuminate the filter. All boundary conditions are set to "open". Time domain and frequency domain based electric and magnetic field monitors allow the visualization of the electric and magnetic fields.
Post Processing
The electric and magnetic field distribution can be accessed in subfolders of 2D/3D Results E-Field in the navigation tree. Both, time and frequency domain monitors are listed here.
By choosing "animate field" both type of monitors - frequency and time monitors - show clearly the effect of the polarization filter: After passing the filter the incident circular polarized wave is linearly polarized.
