Coax To Waveguide Transition - CST2013 MWS Examples
General Description
In this example the S-parameter calculation of a coupling section between a coax and a rectangular waveguide is shown. The coupling process is supported by use of two small metallic cylinders of different size.
Structure Generation
The structure is modelled by defining a brick as a waveguide and several cylinders representing the coax as well as two metallic coupling disks on the bottom of the waveguide. The metallic surrounding of the model is provided by the PEC background material. Using the local coordinate system offers the possibility to create the shapes relative to each other. Taking advantage of the given symmetry of the structure a corresponding symmetry plane is considered.
The structure is parameterized partially allowing to change basic parts of the structure easily.
Solver Setup
Two waveguide ports are defined, one at the waveguide and one at the coax to determine the excitation sources. However, here only the rectangular port is excited using a Gaussian shaped pulse in order to perform a broadband calculation in the frequency range from 8.5 to 12.5 GHz.
Post Processing
The requested S-parameters are automatically derived from the time signals at the two ports and are listed in the navigation tree in the folder 1D Results. The device obviously offers a very good transmission behavior over the whole frequency range.
Furthermore the calculated port modes of the given waveguide ports can be examined in the folder 2D/3D Results.
